Re-writing the story
of inclusive employment

About Chapter 1

We know that talent can come from different places, be of a different shape, colour or thought pathology and may have taken a different journey. That journey may have been one that has previously been a little hard for some people to understand.

We dream of working with a big-hearted business that values inclusivity and is passionate about an employee-driven culture. We believe that the best approach is always led by personal professionalism to build long-term partnerships. Everything we do is powered by our outgoing and accessible nature.

Our mission is simple, we connect progressive businesses with overlooked individuals so that they can write the next chapter of their journey together. So here it is, the start of something new, Chapter 1.

Our Services

Chapter 1 educates your organisation on being a more inclusive workplace. We don’t just consult or educate, we implement. We are redefining what the recruitment process looks like because to hire someone a bit different, you need to be a bit different.

Consultation

Every story has a beginning and for us, it’s the consultation with you, the inclusively-motivated employer. We start with assessing your organisational needs and how we can develop a meaningful partnership together by creating a blueprint to inclusive recruitment. This blueprint is unique to your business, based on your needs and the resources available to you.

Education

Your organisation may need some education and exposure to different but able employees. Chapter 1 can host in-house workshops that focus on disability and awareness, role creating and resetting recruitment practices. Education is vital to the longevity of our placements. It’s the beginning of ongoing workplace support for both our jobseekers and their inclusive employers.

Implementation

We encourage job seekers to write their own stories instead of resumes because there’s more to a person than just dates and dot points. We assist in implementing workplace adjustments to ensure our placements are set up for success with on-the-job support while simultaneously assisting you with accessing government funding.

Success Stories

Josh

Bubbly, energetic and an all-round happy guy, Josh has been a part of the Harcourts Solutions team for more than a year as their leaflet distributor.

Employer, Simon Whitehead, reached out to Chapter 1 Employment to find the right person to join their team after looking for quite some time.

Josh is a major asset to the Harcourts Solutions team and adds so much value to their culture. As Simon puts it, “now I got a mate as well as an employee.”

Peter

Being an inclusive employer for people of all abilities can bring remarkable benefits. We have some fantastic employees who only realised their potential because we have an open and accepting approach to candidates of all abilities.

We achieve a loyal, diligent and intelligent employee and the employee knows they are valued and rewarded for their real contribution.

Having employees with differing abilities has made a work environment with a greater acceptance by all employees of each other’s abilities, despite what they may initially see on the surface. This morale improvement and improved team cohesion has been important for employee retention and even sourcing more staff.

Our Pathways For Employment Agencies

We understand that your placement needs can differ between clients, which is why we have developed two specialised pathways for our partners in inclusivity.

The Full Story

A month-long program that sees two Chapter 1 employees working directly with your agency to place up to 10 job seekers into reputable employers, in a specific location (i.e an office with reduced staff or in need of better performance).

Includes:

  • Full access to our vacancies
  • One month of our team dedicated to reverse marketing your career-seekers
  • The full Chapter 1 recruitment experience (resume rewrites, conversations, onboarding assistance and evidence gathering).
  • If your job seeker is placed with an employer we are not currently working with, we will hand that employer over to you once the placement has commenced to manage post-placement support and encourage future placements.

The Prologue

This pathway is designed to help place someone in the short term to encourage a long-term, successful job.

Includes:

  • Full access to our vacancies
  • Chapter 1 recruitment (job seeker/employer conversation, onboarding assistance and evidence gathering).

The value of being inclusive

Inclusion in the workplace offers many different layers of value, not only for the job seeker and the employer but also for the wider team.

Embracing diversity offers a bigger talent pool from which to hire and, with the right workplace adjustments and support, retain staff. Employees and employers alike benefit from practices that encourage a stable, reliable and productive work environment. Inclusion as standard is one of the most rewarding pathways to achieve this.

Your customers and clients are just as diverse as your employees and all have their own stories to tell. By being an inclusive employer, you are also attracting and connecting with a larger customer base who may share a similar journey. We’re changing the story of recruitment, one placement at a time.
